Lost/Faith/Art by Eleanor Rodda
8th January 2012, The Parlour Studios and Project Space, Kentish Town, London
The debut work by Absent Theatre Company. The piece lasted for an entire afternoon, exploring the idea of rehearsal as performance. My role as director was explicit as members of the public watched myself and two actors work on a script before watching our final performance at the end of the day.

These Things Happen by Jonathan Pease

-Assistant Director and Stage Manager

Tea Time by Amy P Gunn
3rd April 2011, Coffee Revolution, Sheffield University Students' Union
Director/Writer/Performer
An original piece, written by myself, was performed as part of the Sheffield University’s Platform Festival.

The Exhibition
May 2010, School of English Theatre Workshop, Sheffield
Director/Choreographer/Performer
I conducted two dissertations during my final year of university. For my first dissertation I challenged my abilities as a director by exploring physical theatre. I also wanted to examine the spheres of audience and performer, and the consequences of blurring the lines between the two. The final performance was inspired by Fuerzabruta (a piece performed at Edinburgh Fringe 2007) and featured a working shower tank, light box and smashing glass. The cast consisted of 11 people, all amateurs in physical performance.
Phaedra's Love by Sarah Kane
March 2010, School of English Theatre Workshop, Sheffield
The culmination of a second dissertation into staging playwright Sarah Kane, I wanted to explore the possibilities of realising scripts by Kane, which call for explicit brutality onstage. I conducted a research performance of ‘Phaedra’s Love’ to test audience reaction. The dissertation explored ideas of realistic vs stylised interpretations, themes from the Theatre of Cruelty and the issue of audience desensitisation.

The Castle by Howard Barker
October 2009, The Drama Studio, Sheffield
Assistant Director
This was part of the 21 for 21 festival, celebrating Barker’s work. The cast had workshops with Melanie Jessop, Gerard McArthur and Jane Bertish (members of Howard Barker’s The Wrestling School) to gain an understanding of his specific style.

Nimrod Tour to Sharjah, with accompanying Shakespeare lecture.
March 2009, American University of Sharjah, Sharjah, UAE
Assistant Director/Stage Manager
Performed at The University's Theatre Workshop, Sheffield and The American University of Sharjah. In addition to Nimrod, I directed a selection of scenes by Shakespeare to accompany a lecture by Dominic Shellard.

Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare
November 2008, The Drama Studio, Sheffield.
My first piece of directing work. I highlighted the dark sexuality of Shakespeare's classic text for a student audience. Along with strong comic performances, the production was well received by my peers at the student theatre company, and by the general viewing public.
