This is a new blog, an opportunity for me to write about my theatre work - and for people to see what I'm up to.
Feel free to browse through the pages, I've added details of previous work and I hope to add photos soon. I'll back-date a few posts on what I've been up to in recent months.
I love working in theatre. My interests/skills lie in two rather contrasting fields; direction and stage management. If I was to choose, I would see myself as a director, and this is where I want to take my career. I love the process of reading a script, forming ideas on performance and translating those ideas onto the stage, in collaboration with actors. I do not have a specific area of theatre I like to work in. I've worked with Shakespearean texts, physical theatre and original pieces. I have devised, adapted and choreographed work during my university career and hope to continue to expand my repertoire. At this early stage of my career, I'm gaining as much knowledge and experience as I can. I love being challenged and learning from my directing experiences, so I don't want to limit myself so early on.
In addition to my directing work, I also work in stage management. I enjoy this for entirely different reasons. It is a different side to theatre, I feel like I am contributing to the smooth running of a venue and there is massive satisfaction in cueing a show well, adding to an electric performance with seamless technical embelishment.
I'm on a hunt for work, anything and everything, paid or unpaid (paid would be nice!). I'm halfway to achieving my dream; I work in theatre. Now to pursue the next part; being able to live off of my ideal career!
This is record of that pursuit.
