Working as Stage Manager on Spring Awakening has been great fun. I've been with the show from first rehearsal, so I'm pretty close to it. The play itself is a fascinating beast. Sexuality, abuse, suicide, abortion, homosexuality and masturbation all thrown in there. Rehearsals have been great, so interesting. Working with John has been fantastic. As an established actor but a first time director, he was a little nervous, but his skill is incredible. I love how he works with the actors to draw great performances from them. As an actor himself he knows what they require.
The cast of eleven are wonderful too. It's been a pleasure to watch their performances evolve in rehearsal and now they're my responsibility they are a great bunch to work with.
I really enjoy being backstage. Kirsty (our lovely producer) has asked me to write up an account of my experiences backstage. Its tough to write as I doubt anybody would find an accurate account of my role behind the scenes a riveting read. Some of the actors have been asked to contribute as well, very much looking forward to reading those.
