Opening week: Measure for Measure at The Brockley Jack

Location: The Brockley Jack

An exciting week in one of my favourite venues, its lovely to be back here for the fourth time!

Yesterday we had our get in, which was more of a lighting plot as we have no set. Peter Fennell, our lighting designer spent the day in the space creating beautiful lighting states while I took a rehearsal with the cast upstairs. It was great to be rehearsing in The Jack - I had forgotten how high the seating was, creating the most gorgeous rake and placing the action below our audience. It's going to look fantastic.

Today we're running a technical and dress rehearsals and having a photo call - which is a very exciting prospect. I love seeing the show condensed into an image; the lights, costumes, make up and characterisation all crystallised into a shot.

Tomorrow is opening night and I can't wait to see the show running with an audience - will they enjoy it? Will they laugh at the moments we laugh at? I've really enjoyed working on this. There are moments I can watch and think "I directed that" which is a lovely feeling. I'm really grateful to the director, James, for trusting me with scenes in his absence, and even directing his performance in the show. It's been a great experience and we are so close to sharing it with an audience!
