Edinburgh Fringe 2012: Week Three (Work)

This Fringe lark is an endurance game to be sure!!

Andy and Mike's Tick Tock Time Machine finished on the 19th, meaning my 10am call time is gone! I went out with Ash (the show's SM) and the crew from Pleasance One for a celebratory drink that night which was really good fun.

A four-show day is a lot kinder than a five-show day so work is generally easier. The ridiculously hot venues are torture - we're all feeling lethargic afterwards, it's just not pleasant.

In addition, Cabaret Voltaire's tech desk is a joke. The cable is utter crap and only connects sporadically - sounds like a radio tuning in and out. I only have three cues for Max's show and it can't even behave for that! I also get dripped on from the ceiling during the entire show. On Friday I had a pretty bad day. A piece of set fell on me during Andy and Mike, taking out the props table in addition, Cabaret Voltaire's ceiling drenched me and I was just generally tired and missing my friends and my girl (our work schedules have not been kind to us this month). But things were about to change....

That night I was due to tech The Three Englishmen's Joy of Sketch slot. I was thrilled to do the show again. The line up was fantastic; Adam Riches, Max and Ivan and Pappy's all joined the Englishmen. Ryan texted me on the evening of the show to ask if I'd tech Adam's slot in addition to Englishmen (to which I said YES!). In the dressing room the sketch fellas began arriving. One of Pappy's caught me chatting with Jack (Englishmen) about tech and asked if I was teching the show. I said I was doing some of the slots and would be happy to tech others - and suddenly I had a scuffle of sketch-men clasping laptops and CDs and scripts. It was brilliant! I teched the entire line-up, acts who I love to watch and admire every Fringe. I was a little bit comedy-star-struck and so happy! I gave out my business cards at the end. My whole Fringe turned around within that hour. A very good night!!
