Edinburgh Fringe 2012: Week Two (Work)

Week 2 of the Fringe and all is going well. Had a couple of very tiring days but all for the good. On Friday night both Ford and Akram and Ed Eales-White had guest slots on The Joy of Sketch - a showcase of fantastic sketch acts on the Fringe. Seeing as the gig was at 10:30pm I jumped at the opportunity to tech their slots. Also as McNeil and Pamphillon's tech (Monty) would be busy doing Garret Millerick's show at the time I offered to tech their slot too. I'd already seen their show so they accepted.

After a very swift mini consultation in the dressing room with the three acts (and collecting enough iPhones loaded with playlists to open an Apple shop) we got into the venue and I made a beeline for the GIANT tech desk. I'm used to an iPod jack and a light switch so this was a touch daunting.

However I was in very good hands. The crew were fantastic - David on lights and Laura on sound were so accommodating and perfectly on the ball. I called the lights and sound levels (operated by the crew) and cued the stings and songs on the iPhones and CDs myself. We made a fab team and I was exhilarated by how well it went. My acts did fantastically - the crowd loved Ed and I was so proud as none of us had worked such a massive venue. My hands were shaking but I kept my cool and loved it! Definitely my working highlight of the Fringe so far!!

Jenny Fawcett has been doing really well - we've had some excellent houses and everyone is enjoying her show. I was recognised at a nearby cafe as Jenny Fawcett's tech. It was so nice for them to approach me and tell me how much they'd enjoyed the show!

Following Joy of Sketch, Ford and Akram got a couple of full houses which was fantastic! The ladies have started reacting to a false cue towards the end of the show, telling me off and accusing me of being drunk. It's great fun, they're getting more offensive each show!

On Saturday I rattled through 4 gigs
back to back. Lou had a slot as Jenny in a showcase from 'London is Funny'. Free Fringe gig so the sound was truly appalling but we muddled through.
Then ran away to do Ford and Akram. Afterwards me and Lou and Yaz had a coffee together before I ran away to
Ed's gig, which was lovely.

Max Dickins is enjoying full houses every night which is really heartening. He mentioned the other day that he's making up my fee from the bucket - so I'll be carting a bag of change back to London....!
