Location: The Northern Line to Angel station.
Last night I was a hive of activity; writing cards, checking props and hanging up my opening night/press-night outfit and tweeting, texting, emailing, Facebooking and blogging away to get my loved ones to come along to what I can only describe as the biggest night of my career to date.
Tonight, Stand and Deliver!, a new musical featuring songs from the 80s and a narrative worthy of any Carry On film, is opening at The Kings Head Theatre, Islington London. It's the highest profile show I've ever directed, a huge honour. The show has been listed in The Stage, Time Out, One Stop Arts, Whats On Stage and Remote Goat. How exciting!
After a speedy four hour get in we'll break for a further four hours before getting into the space again and performing the show in London for the first time. I'm sitting on a train to Angel full of nerves and excitement and disbelief. I'm still not quite sure how this has happened. But I'm thrilled I've been allowed such an amazing opportunity and that this blog even played a small part in leading Wayne Gumble to contact me.
I want to say a massive thank you to Wayne, who asked me on board all those months ago and who has been supportive, trusting and generous in giving me creative free reign over his work. Thank you to Ros, his assistant producer an lovely girlfriend for also making me feel so welcome and valued and for all the work they've done to get the attention of some big players in the industry!
Thank you to Peter, the lighting designer and stand-in stage manager following the original stage manager stepping down at short notice. We've known each other since I was a fresher at uni and he remains a calming presence and friendly face in a crazy industry as well as a vastly talented designer and technician. Thank you in advance to Rosie and Nikki for their work at today at the get in and for jumping on board at short notice.
Thank you to Tracey, Charlotte and Kevin for all the time spent on choreography and musical direction. I may not have spent much time with you three in rehearsals but your input was wonderfully visible each time the cast came to me for script rehearsals. The show looks and sounds fantastic!
Of course a massive massive thank you to all the cast who bring energy and enthusiasm as well as a whole load of laughter to the rehearsal. Thank you Nigel, Kara, Chris, Simon, Andy, Cheryl, Christine, Jen, Jeff, Matt, Reagan, Terema and Leigh for all your hard work! Tonight is the culmination of three months' hard slog in freezing rehearsal rooms. Enjoy every moment of it and the audience will love it too!
A final thank you to all the friends and loved ones who have held my hand through the highs and lows, from announcing my involvement on this project in October and booking tickets well in advance to losing my voice, the fallout of working five shows simultaneously and being a very busy, very tired girl. A massive thank you for your continued patience and support while I chase this dream.
Thank you everyone.
