Location: Edinburgh!
Well, I'm back again and it feels like I've never left. This will be my sixth fringe, second as a freelance techie - its definitely become my favourite way to experience Edinburgh. I love working as a tech for comedy shows - you can commit to several shows which means you can increase potential earnings, and its good fun! I have three lovely shows this year (a more humane number than last year's five). Three totally new clients, three fantastic comedy shows. My day starts with Caroline Hardie: Does My Face Look Big in This? which mixes stand up and character. Really enjoy this show, especially the fast paced 'choosing what to wear sequence' which involves items of clothing flying across the stage. This show is at Daisy, Underbelly - which means I hold two passes this year! After a dash to the Pleasance Courtyard (HOME!) I'm back in The Attic teching Catriona Knox: Player, another one woman character show which is a riot - I love the sketch completely in French! Then I stay put and Sad Faces Threw A Party comes in to do their show in The Attic - a sketch/narrative show, which is fast paced in terms of lights and sound and keeps me on my toes tech-wise. The party theme of the show means I get to wear a party hat and sit surrounded by balloons at the tech desk (something that I was very excited about until yesterday when I realised that wearing my dungarees - which are so comfy - and the party hat made me look like a three year old). Ridiculous vanity aside, the guys are fab and have a great buzz around them and I'm really excited to be a part of their show, and also part of team Ditto, which is headed up by the producing tour de force, Beth O'Brien. Ditto Productions is also behind my highlight of 2011, The Wrestling. This was a truly incredible show and I'm thrilled its returning in 2013. I've already bought my ticket!
I'm so excited for things at this Fringe, seeing some amazing shows, working other fantastic acts - in addition to working Caroline, Catriona and Sad Faces I'll also be working on McNeil and Pamphilon Go 8-Bit, which is on for four shows featuring video game challenges with sketch acts. I am really excited to be working with McNeil and Pamphilon, having teched their slot on Joy Of Sketch last year - really enjoy their work.
I'm excited to see Max and Ivan, Jonny and the Baptists, Garrett Millerick, The Beta Males, Late Night Gimp Fight, The Pin, The Noise Next Door, Benny Boot, Luke Toulson, Birthday Girls, Thunderbards, Tom Craine, Henry Paker, Nick Helm, David O'Doherty, James Acaster, Bo Burnham, David Trent and Colin Hoult. Several of these are previous acts that I've worked with as venue crew and then followed their subsequent work over the years - some I've never seen before due to clashing schedules - which this year I am able to see. There's also a whole new spectrum of work opening up to me in Underbelly - which I will be taking full advantage of on my lovely new E4 pass.
Tonight I'm off to see Max and Ivan's The Reunion at Pleasance Dome. Teched a preview for these two at Leicester Square Theatre which was awesome so I'm excited to see how it's evolved for the fringe.
